Our school mission states that each child will develop "...an understanding of the Gospel's call to service, and an appreciation for the larger community." While we work as a school to teach this, children learn the value of serving their community best through the example set by the adults in their lives.
We value our parents and their desire to be involved in our school. Being “involved” can mean many things to many people. To us, it means participating in class, grade, or school-wide events meant to support our school and enhance the educational environment. When we are all-in and help when we can, our school gets better!
The Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis requires all volunteers who may have regular or unsupervised contact (including field trips, class parties, mystery reader, coaches, etc.) with minors and/or vulnerable adults must complete the “Essential Three” requirements, which must be renewed every three years.

VIRTUS Training
All adult volunteers in this archdiocese who have ongoing contact with children, young people, and vulnerable adults are required to complete the online training session: "VIRTUS: Protecting God's Children for Adults".
This session is a 75-minute online training module to better equip adults in protecting children in the world around them. New volunteers will be assigned this session, “Protecting God’s Children” when they create a VIRTUS account.
Among other things, VIRTUS attendees will learn to recognize the signs and symptoms that indicate a child or vulnerable adult is being abused or exploited in some way, environmental factors to be aware of in the physical space of the parish or school, how abusers operate, and things parents/caring adults can do to help educate their children and vulnerable adults about how to respond to inappropriate behavior toward them.

All volunteers who may have regular or unsupervised contact* with minors and/or vulnerable adults must complete the “Essential Three” requirements, which must be renewed every three years.
- VIRTUS Safe Environment training is a 75-minute online training module to better equip adults in protecting children in the world around them. New volunteers will be assigned this session, “Protecting God’s Children”, when they create a VIRTUS account. (This training replaces the ‘live’ VIRTUS session.)
- Background Check – In order to protect those whom we serve, volunteers, including, but not limited to, those who have regular or unsupervised contact with minors*, must undergo a criminal background check.
- Code of Conduct – Archdiocesan Code of Conduct for volunteers, establishes standards of ministerial behavior and appropriate boundaries for volunteers who have regular or unsupervised contact with minors.
To complete the "Essential Three" and become an approved volunteer, first visit www.virtus.org and click on First-Time Registrant, then 'Begin the Registration Process' (select “St. Paul and Minneapolis, MN Archdiocese”).
If you are planning on COACHING at St. Odilia School . . .
you'll also need to fill out & turn-in two required forms to the school or parish office:(Instructions on filling out the 123B Background Check.)
For VETERAN VOLUNTEERS . . .
there is a need to be re-credentialed every three years so it can't be assumed that if you have been on the approved list in the past, that you are still on it. It is recommended that you check with the office each year to double-check that you are still an approved volunteer.
