Sixth grade is an exciting time for St. Odilia students because it is their first year of middle school! Initially, students are a bundle of nerves as they commit to learn their new locker combinations, class schedules, and workloads. Soon, however, they ease into the middle school experience as if they had been there forever. Students often comment on how much they enjoy middle school because they get to see new teachers and new classmates every hour as they switch classes.
Sixth grade also is a year of change that both teachers and students really enjoy. Students begin to think abstractly, grow into themselves as adolescents, and begin to see themselves as active participants in their school, family, and global communities. As sixth-grade teachers at St. Odilia, we believe it is our responsibility to teach our sixth-graders how to become strong, caring people as well as efficient and successful students.
