What is Destination Imagination?

If you like to problem solve, think creatively and spontaneously, and work with a team, then Destination Imagination (DI) may be for you! DI operates on the philosophy that creative solutions come from teamwork, cooperation, and risk taking. Read on if you're curious about DI, and click the link above to get even more detailed information.

Who can participate?

DI is open to all grades from kindergarten through college. St. Odilia students and their parents/guardians are invited to an organizational meeting (usually in October) after which teams are formed.

Each team may consist of up to seven school members with an adult team manager and/or coach.

The age groups are separated according to primary (K-2), elementary (3-5), middle (6-8), and secondary (9-12) levels.

What do teams do?

Most teams meet once a week at the beginning of the season and more often as the competition date approaches. Meetings may take place at St. Odilia, before and after school.

The teams spend their meetings first selecting and then working on their main challenge (they must choose one of five challenges). The challenges change every year and are reviewed at the October organizational meeting. At their team meetings, team members also work on solving instant challenges presented by their team manager and coach.

The teams compete against other teams in their age group from private and public schools at the DI Regional Tournament in March. Teams present their main challenge and solve an instant challenge at the tournament. The first and second place regional winners are invited to compete at the DI State Tournament in April. Winners from state are invited to compete at DI Globals in May (usually held in Knoxville, Tennessee). St. Odilia has had many teams advance to the state level.
